Does God Really Have a Plan for My Life?

DOES GOD REALLY HAVE A PLAN FOR MY LIFE?

Life can often seem confusing and pointless.  Nothing goes the way we planned.  No matter what we do, we run into roadblocks and obstacles.  This week we celebrate the birth of Mary and Joseph, but think of what that was like for them.  Imagine what people thought when Mary was pregnant before marriage!  Then there was the long, painful trip to Bethlehem.  When they arrived, there was no place to stay except a cave, and before too long the baby’s life was in danger and they had to flee the country.  Talk about confusing!  Yet they kept their faith in God.

We are told God loves us and has a wonderful plan for our lives, but sometimes that seems hard to believe.  In fact, we can even wonder if He exists at all.  Yet we know better and have seen enough proof of His existence to reject that lie.  But does He really have a purpose for each of us? It is important to know that God exists and is the God of the Bible and the only God there is. But that really doesn’t make any difference in our lives unless He reaches out to us. Does He have a plan and purpose for each of us? How can we know for sure?

PROOF FROM REASON:  If God is sovereign over everything then that includes us and our daily lives. If He is a God of love who created us and cares for us then it only stands to reason that He has a purpose for doing this. Each of us is uniquely made for a reason. God, as our Father, has plans and dreams for His children like any loving parent does. Since He is perfect all His plans for us are also perfect.

PROOF FROM OUR HEART: We know that everything that happens is not by accident or chance.  Inside our hearts we know there must be a plan, a purpose to life. This need for significance, meaning and purpose in life built into each of us must come from something greater than us and outside us. God created us to need that, in order that He may fulfill it in each of us.

PROOF FROM THE BIBLE: The Bible tells us that God has a perfect plan for each and every one of us (Jeremiah 29:11; Psalm 40:5). We can find deep comfort, encouragement and peace in knowing this. He created each of us different from everyone else. He loves us and proved it by paying for our sins on the cross. In good times we can thank Him for His perfect plan. In hard times when we don’t see His plan or purpose clearly, we can trust Him because we know all is part of His plan whether we see it or not (Romans 8:28) and that He Himself and all He does is perfect. It may not always ‘feel’ like He has a wonderful plan and purpose for our lives, but feelings can be confusing and untrue.  The truth is that we know He does because He says so.   He always keeps His word and we can count on that.  If not, there’s nothing we can count on.  And that’s just the lie that the enemy of our souls wants us to believe!  (April 15, 2024  Doylestown, PA)

Jeremiah 29:11–13  For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.  Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.  You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

Do you sometimes doubt God has a plan and purpose for your life?

What truths from this blog can you use to counter those lies when they come?
