DOES SATAN KNOW OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS?
We value our privacy today and rightly so. We don’t think well of those who listen in on conversation. It can be a bit unsettling when we hear about the way our electronic devices can hear and record what we say without our being aware of it. We know God hears every word that we say and, if we are following Him, that can bring great peace and blessing (Matthew 12:36-37). But can demons hear what we say? Does Satan have access to our thoughts?
I was in a communication unit when I was in the army. It was essential to have clear communication between command and those who carried out the orders. It was also very important to make sure the enemy did not intercept that communication. The same is true today. How private are our conversations with God? How secure are our thoughts?
The Bible makes it clear that only God knows our hearts and inner conversations. “The Lord knows the thoughts of man” (Psalm 94:11), and “You alone know the hearts of all men” (1 Kings 8:39). But what about when we pray out loud? Does God protect that conversation and keep it private? I don’t know. Perhaps he allows angels and demons to hear our testimonies and worship but keeps our prayer with God, even out loud, private. This is sacred space and I think God treats it as such. Our normal, everyday conversation would seem to be available for spiritual forces, both good and evil, to hear and understand, but not our communication with God. I can’t prove that, but it makes sense to me.
While demons can’t hear our internal thoughts, they are skilled at observing our external behaviors, words, and reactions. They are masters at reading body language. They have been studying human behavior for thousands of years and know us well. Perhaps they know us better than we know ourselves sometimes.
When and if God allows the forces of evil to have insight into our thoughts and plans, it is only to stretch and strengthen our faith (1 Corinthians 10:13; Romans 8:28). Even then God will provide strength for us to have victory over the enemy. “The Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one” (2 Thessalonians 3:3). Our conversations with God are always secure, and His Spirit within us gives us power over any external attack.
Rest assured that your relationship with God, including your inner thoughts and prayers, are safe and protected. Keep praying, trusting, and leaning into His promises, knowing He guards that sacred space. If you feel opposition, stand firm on God’s promises and His presence with you. Never let the enemy intimidate you or put fear in your heart. Keep your eyes on Jesus, not the enemy!
Matthew 13:18-19 “Listen then to what the parable of the sower means: When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in their heart. This is the seed sown along the path.”
Do you avail yourself of the great privilege of talking personally, one-on-one with the Creator and Sustainer of the whole universe? He is always available any time you want to initiate a conversation. Spend some time talking to Him now. He’s waiting for you.
