What Does the Bible Say About Crystals?

WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT CRYSTALS?

Crystals are beautiful God-created minerals which have been given a significance beyond what God created them to  have.  Many believe they can bring healing, good fortune, love and protection from evil.  But is that true?

The Old Testament mentions crystals many times. Job 28:19 talks about a topaz, which is a crystal.  Lamentations 4:7 and Proverbs 8:11 speak of rubies.  In addition to the Old Testament, the New Testament talks about crystals in the New Heaven and New Earth. The river described in the New Heaven and New Earth is said to be as clear as crystal (Revelation 22:1).  The area before the throne of God is also described as being as clear as crystal (Revelation 4:6).  While the Bible uses the beautiful imagery of crystal in its writings, it never tells us that crystals have healing or magical power properties as is popularly believed in mainstream society.

The belief that crystals have mystical powers started in ancient times, such as in the cultures of Egypt, Greece, and China.  Some believe that various types of crystals have different powers to help the owner.  Of course, there is no scientific evidence to support this.  When crystals are used to manipulate circumstances, they become part of the occult.  Christians are to have nothing to do with any of this (Deuteronomy 18:10-12).  Wearing crystals as jewelry because of their beauty is fine, but to attribute any magical or mystical power or influence to them is sin.

Putting them in the place of God is idolatry and sinful.  We should never worship anyone or anything except God (Deuteronomy 4:15-20; 2 Corinthians 6:16-17). If you have had a past in crystals, the Lord will forgive you if you ask.

Giving up the use of crystals may be difficult if you have been using them a long time or if you have a strong belief in crystals, but it is vital that you give up this practice. Crystals do not bring you closer to God.  In fact, they draw you away from Him and cause the crystals themselves to become the idol or “god” in your life. I promise your life will be much better if you place God first and foremost in your life instead of crystals.

James 4:8 tells us, “Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.”  We would be wise to follow James’ advice and choose to draw near to God by giving up any occult practices, including using crystals. In the same way, we need to wash our hands and purify our hearts by actively turning away from the sin in our life.

The Lord never promised us that He would heal us of all our ailments, nor did He promise us that our lives would be perfect, but He did promise that He would walk with us through it all — through the bright times and the dark times (Psalm 23; Hebrews 13:5).

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” Psalm 23:4

What are you tempted to turn to instead of God when you need help or healing?  Confess that as sin and turn to God only.
